Reed on the podium at Supercross finale

Australian Supercross star Chad Reed has ended the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season on a positive note, finishing second in the final round of the series at Las Vegas'' Sam Boyd Stadium tonight.

After an extremely emotional week following the birth of his son and the tragic death of his good friend Andrew McFarlane, the multiple world supercross Champion was determined to end the year with a good result.

The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider finished his heat race second and a good start in the 20-lap Main Event saw him slot straight into second behind race leader Ryan Dungey.

Reed pushed his KX450F hard and matched lap times with Dungey throughout the race but was unable to make ground on his young rival.

Acknowledging he probably rode a little too conservatively Reed said he was now looking forward to the start of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.

"It felt good to be out front," Reed admitted. "I have had a frustrating season so it was great to be able to put in a good race and finish on the podium.

"Hats off to the guys at Monster Energy and Kawasaki it has taken a long time to get here and I want to thank everyone for being so patient with me.

"Emotionally, it has been a tough week. In one way I was kind of happy with second but then I also really wanted to win this event for Andrew. I think I did ride a little conservative in some parts,” he added.

Reed will continue testing and training ahead of the opening round of the 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, which will be held at Hangtown Motocross Track in Sacramento on Sunday May 22.
