MID-OHIO MOTOCROSS PARK TO CLOSE AT CONCLUSION OF 2008
DUBLIN, OH (November 4, 2008) – TrueSports, Incorporated, owner and operator of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, regrets to announce that the 2008 motocross season will be the last fully-dedicated one at the 47-year-old facility.
Mid-Ohio Motocross Park, located on the southwest corner of the 330-acre Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course complex, hosted 15 events over the past three years including a Mid-East Regional Qualifier for the Air Nautiques / AMA Amateur National Championships, and was a member of AMA District 12.
The approximately 20 acres of space that the motocross track currently sits on is needed for parking and additional camping spaces for annual spectator events on the road course. Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course has seen record crowds for the Acura Sports Car Challenge / The Honda Indy 200 presented by Westfield Insurance – its IndyCar Series and American Le Mans Series doubleheader weekend – and frequently sells out of camping spaces for its AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, and Honda Super Cycle Weekend presented by Dunlop Tire events. The reworking of the land and the dismantling of a dedicated motocross track will not impact motocross for the AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days event, July 24-26, 2009, as a temporary course will be erected for that purpose.
“It became apparent to us that there was a better use for this land, especially as our summer road course events continue to grow,” said Michelle Trueman Gajoch, president of TrueSports, Incorporated. “It was a difficult decision for us to make and we’d like to thank AMA District 12, our riders, sponsors, fans, and families who supported Mid-Ohio Motocross Park since its inception in 2006.”
A comprehensive motorsports facility, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course features a permanent road-racing circuit with two primary configurations: a 2.4-mile, 15-turn, and a 2.25-mile, 13-turn circuit. The park-like, 330-acre complex in Lexington, Ohio is also home to The Mid-Ohio School. Located 60 miles north of Columbus and 75 miles south of Cleveland near Mansfield, the track has been called the most competitive in the U.S. and annually hosts a diversity of locally, regionally and nationally sanctioned racing events for amateur, club and professional drivers and riders.
Founded in 1981 and headquartered in Dublin, Ohio, TrueSports, Incorporated is a privately held motorsports entertainment enterprise. The company owns and operates Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and The Mid-Ohio School, and promotes a wide variety of motor racing, driver instruction, corporate, and family entertainment events throughout the year.
