Sarah Whitmore captures her 5th Loretta Lynns Championship!
This past week, Sarah Whitmore obtained her fifth Championship at Loretta Lynns. In order for her to obtain the Championship, she had to be the best out of three combined races. In doing so, she beat the current front-runner in the Womens Motocross Association (WMA). Sarah is currently in second overall in the WMA series, going into the last round, to be held on September 3, 2005 at the Steel City Raceway, Delmont, PA.
Sarah stated, “out of all of my Loretta Lynns Championships, this one probably means the most. That is because of what I had to endure over the past year with my Epstein-Baar.” Last year, Sarah was diagnosed with the virus, which caused her to be very fatigued after racing, to the point of requiring an I.V. after a race. That caused her to sit out most of last seasons WMA as well as last years Loretta Lynns.
Sarah went on to state, “This year, I am feeling much better and have been training harder than ever. I really wanted to come back with a vengeance, and am ecstatic that I obtained the LL championship. I am currently in second in the WMA series, but was hoping to be number one at the end of the season.” Sarah has been competing in the WMA series on a YZ 125, when most of her competitors have been riding the stronger and faster 250 four stroke bikes, namely the current leader in points.
Next year will be a different story, as she realizes she will have to be on a four stroke to win the championship. She is looking forward to next year and the upcoming US Open in Las Vegas in October.
Sarah would like to thank all of her sponsors who have been very supportive throughout this year and in years past, including: Yamaha, MSR, M2R, Richardsons RV, BluestarrMX, Etnies, Scott, Citi, Enzo, N-Style, Alpinestars, Dunlop, Ogio, Dickies Girl, Kicker, Skaterade, Lake View Sports Plus, Pro Clean, Motorex, FASST, FMF, Topar, Carbon Fiber Works, K&N Filters, and Sunstar.
